The Jaguars waived five players on Monday, reducing their roster count to 80. Waived are offensive tackle Ryan Gibbons, long-snapper Brett Goode, defensive end Brian Smith, tight end Isaac Smolko (pictured) and wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe. Gibbons, Goode and Smith are first-year players; Smolko and Thorpe are second-year veterans.

Gibbons, 25, joined the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie in April of 2006 and spent most of that season on the team’s practice squad. He spent the first three weeks of the 2007 season on the practice squad and re-signed with the team on Jan. 22 of this year. The 6-6, 318-pounder played collegiately at Northeastern.

Goode was in training camp with the Jaguars last year as an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas. The 6-1, 246-pound Goode, 23, was waived on Aug. 20. He re-joined the Jaguars on March 5.

Smith was the Jaguars’ fourth-round draft choice last year from Missouri and he spent his rookie season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and injured reserve with a hip injury.

Smolko, 25, played in the final five games of the 2007 regular season and both playoff games after spending most of the season on the Jaguars’ practice squad. The 6-5, 260-pound Smolko, who played at Penn State, originally signed with the Steelers as a rookie free agent in 2006.

Thorpe, a former Florida State player, signed with the Jaguars on June 2. The 24-year-old Thorpe, 6-0, 187, was originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2005.

NFL rosters are limited to 80 players under contract. The Jaguars have 75 players signed, all except for this year’s five draft choices.
