Indianapolis native Alex Grissom walked into the lobby of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Friday wearing a Jaguars Reggie Nelson jersey and holding in his hands a special package earmarked for the Jacksonville Jaguars owners. Grissom was one of 32 eighth-graders from Indianapolis dispatched to hand deliver the city’s bid for the 2012 Super Bowl to all of the team owners around the league.

Grissom, accompanied by his father, Milt, was greeted by Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver. The Weavers accepted the delivery from Alex and welcomed him to the team’s offices. The NFL owners will vote on the bids at their annual meeting in Atlanta later this month, with Indianapolis competing with Houston and Phoenix for the game. The Colts will open Lucas Oil Stadium in 2008, where the Jaguars will visit on September 21.

“This is a very unique way to deliver it,” Jaguars Chairman/CEO Delores Barr Weaver said. “We have seen a few of these but never had one personally delivered by a human being.”

Grissom, who is celebrating his 15th birthday today, attends Franklin Middle School and was chosen for duty by the Superintendent of his school district. The Grissoms left Indianapolis early this morning for the trip to Jacksonville, and will return home on Saturday.

“The package never left my sight,” Milt Grissom said.

The guests were given a private tour of the stadium including the Jaguars lockerroom and weight room and the owners’ offices. Before heading back home, the Grissoms will attend the Players Championship at TPC in Ponte Vedra today, courtesy of the Jaguars.
